So for those reading this. Hello and welcome!
For those that don’t know me, my name is Chevy-Jordan. This blog is something I’ve wanted to create for a while know and I’ve finally got around to doing it.
In 2016 - after graduating university I decided that I wanted to start my own business that focused on photography and video production. After a few months of educating myself on business and business practice (which for an artist is quite a shock!) I finally started branding my services under the two businesses I created; Chejoco – Which focuses on video/film production, and Ofilaye – my alias as a photographer. After a few weeks I learned what I imagined all small business owners learned at this stage, it was not as easy as I thought to get clients… and keep getting clients! All the artists who I made musics videos before I left for uni in 2013 suddenly didn’t want to start paying for music videos, friends expected ‘mates-rates’ for photography services, and some people find the idea signing a contract absurd and never commit to your services. After all this turmoil I began to think to myself, “Surely this is just because I live in a small city and the people here aren’t accustomed to dealing with an artist with a business mindset.” Which I still believe to be partially true. Though that shouldn’t mean that I shouldn’t be able to make a living as an artist here as I see many people do it.
Sadly, if you’re reading this blog to find all the answers on “How to become rich with your art!!!” then I’m sorry but this isn’t what the intended purpose of Luminance+ is.
Alternatively, if you’re here to gain information on how different people approach making a living as an artist and how they practice their craft. Then you’ve come to the right place.
I hope you join me on this journey and gain some useful insights along the way.
